Container Conditions
Effective Date: March 13, 2026
At Premium Container LLC, we believe that choosing the right shipping container starts with understanding the different container conditions and grades available. Knowing these differences will help you select the best container for your budget, intended use, and long-term needs.
We offer containers in three primary conditions:
- Used Containers – Reliable, cost-effective containers that have been in service and remain structurally sound for storage or transportation.
- One-Trip Containers – Nearly new containers that have made only one cargo journey from the manufacturer. These containers offer an excellent appearance and maximum service life.
- Refurbished Containers – Used containers that have been professionally repaired, restored, and repainted to improve both their appearance and functionality.
Each container is also assigned a grade, which reflects its overall condition, appearance, and structural integrity. Higher-grade containers generally have fewer cosmetic imperfections and command a higher price, while lower-grade containers provide a more economical solution without compromising essential performance.
Our experienced team is available to help you determine which container condition and grade best fits your specific requirements. Whether you need a container for shipping, secure storage, or a custom project, Premium Container LLC is committed to providing quality products, competitive pricing, and exceptional customer service.
Shipping Container Conditions
Used
Our used general-purpose shipping containers have typically been in active shipping service for 5 to 15 years before being retired. They provide a durable and cost-effective solution for a wide range of storage and commercial needs.
Most used containers retain their original paint and shipping line markings and may show normal signs of wear, including surface rust, dents, and scratches from years of heavy-duty use.
Although they may have cosmetic imperfections, our used containers are structurally sound and carefully inspected to ensure they are reliable for storage, construction projects, and, depending on their grade, continued cargo transportation.
New One Trip
Our One-Trip Shipping Containers are manufactured in Asia and used only once to transport cargo to the United States. As a result of this initial voyage, they may have minor cosmetic imperfections such as small dents, dings, or surface scratches from normal shipping and handling.
These containers are carefully selected for their excellent condition and long-lasting durability. The one-trip shipping process helps reduce transportation costs, allowing us to provide high-quality containers at competitive prices while maintaining exceptional value.
Refurbished
We offer high-quality refurbished and used shipping containers that are thoroughly inspected for strength, durability, and reliability.
Our Wind and Water Tight (WWT) containers are professionally restored to extend their lifespan. We offer three refurbishment options:
- Typical Refurbishment: Exterior preparation, rust removal, priming, and repainting.
- Complete Refurbishment: Includes exterior restoration plus interior repainting.
- Factory Refurbishment: Complete restoration with new interior and exterior paint, new door gaskets, and updated container markings.
All used containers are inspected and graded based on their age, structural condition, interior and exterior appearance, repair history, and overall quality, ensuring you receive a container that meets your needs.
Wind & Water Tight (WWT)
We offers Wind & Water Tight (WWT) shipping containers that provide a dependable and cost-effective storage solution. As our most popular grade, these used containers are thoroughly inspected and guaranteed to be windproof, watertight, and free from leaks, making them ideal for secure storage and transportation.
Because WWT containers have previously been used in international shipping, they may display signs of normal wear and tear, including original paint, surface rust, dents, scratches, and other cosmetic imperfections. While their exterior appearance may not be aesthetically perfect, their structural integrity remains intact, ensuring reliable performance and protection for your cargo or storage needs.
Cargo Worthy (CW)
Cargo Worthy (CW) containers are inspected and certified for safe transport by sea, rail, and road. They are structurally sound and suitable for export and storage.
As used containers, they may have original paint, shipping markings, surface rust, scratches, and minor dents. For international shipping, a valid CSC certification is required.
IICL (IICL-6)
An IICL (IICL-6) shipping container has been inspected in accordance with the rigorous standards established by the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL). These containers are recognized for their exceptional structural integrity and are suitable for international export and cargo transportation.
Due to their superior condition, IICL containers typically have a higher market value than Wind & Watertight (WWT) containers. They generally exhibit minimal wear, have a cleaner exterior appearance, and are maintained to a much higher standard, making them an excellent choice for customers seeking premium-quality shipping containers.
AS IS
An As Is shipping container has significant damage and does not meet Wind and Watertight (WWT) standards. It may have holes, damaged flooring, rust, or other structural defects.
These containers are recommended only for projects where weather resistance and structural integrity are not required and are sold in their current condition.
